The Pacific is a lofty 10-part miniseries that transports a reasonable representation of WWII's Pacific Theatre as viewed through the interweaved odysseys of several U.S. Marines-Robert Leckie, John Basilone and Eugene Sledge. The unprecedented encounters of the aforementioned men and their colleague Marines take them from the first go against the Japanese in the spooky bushes of Guadalcanal, through the impervious rain firests of Cape Gloucester, opposite the impacted coral fortifications of Peleliu, up the dark sand terraces of Iwo Jima, through the slaughtering fields of Okinawa, to the triumphant, yet uneasy, dividend home when V-J Day. The viewer will be submerged in battle through the personal point of view of this various, relatable bunch of men pushed to the breaking point in combat both physically and mentally in opposition to a persevering foe unlike any contacted ever.
